After many years of thinking about a new morgan I took the plunge & 3 years ago took delivery of a new 4/4 to enjoy my retirement with. Since then I have had various problems, particularly EGR valves, corrosion, & now a near miss on its first MOT. The tester was horrified at the amount of freeplay on BOTH rear wheels but just issued me with an advisory notice. The car is fitted with steel wheels which are bubbling with rust, particularly the rear ones, the plating on the n/s headlamp chrome ring which clamps the glass is pealing so bad you can cut your fingers on it, both door handles are pitting & their is bubbles appearing under powder coating on the n/s screen pillar. According to the supplying dealer this is because the car has been used during the winter & not washed immediatly 'its really a 1930's car' were his comments (but not at '30s price!)
The engine management light has been on & unbeknowing to me the EGR valve was changed during a service whilst under warranty. The light has subsequently been on again last year & has required a further EGR valve for which Morgan did agree to pay for (it was over 2 years old & out of warranty) but I had to pay for the big bit, ie the labour.
Their has been many issues with the car ( total failure of the headlamps due to Morgan fitting the wrong amperage fuse, the hood popping open which the dealer was unable to fix, being an engineer myself I set up the latching mechanism myself!) to name but a couple.
I am afraid that the car is becoming a liability, particularly financially, & although have lost ALL faith in the supplying dealer have found a good service agent but he is 100 miles away. Unfortunatly I love the car otherwise I would have bitten the bullet long ago & got rid but wonder if this is the norm or have I just been unlucky!
I did forget to mention their is now 5900 miles on the clock!! Will it or me make 10k I ask myself.
