For a brief period Raphael was the most important architect in Rome, working for persons close to the Papacy. Construction according to his design for a hillside retreat for Cardinal Giulio de' Medici was never completed, however.

This is why they considered him as the "Prince of Renaissance Art", and his visualization of the Madonna, or the Virgin, is imporant as to why he became a famous painter.
