Can somebody please tell me how I can contact Mick Aston? Although he is listed at Bristol University they tell me they have no contact number, and I can find no e-mail or other address for him.
I am trying to get permission from him to copy a plan of his in Worcester Record Office, so any assistance would be deeply appreciated.

I know that writing a letter seems like a hopelessly outdated mode of communication, but that is what Mick expects people to do. That is why he gives his address as Bristol University. Letters will be passed on to him.
To protect his privacy, neither his private phone number, nor an email address, will be given out, either by the university or his work colleagues.

Thanks for that. I have no problem with writing letters if I know where to send them. The problem was that Bristol University did not seem to be aware that they were a postal address. I was blandly informed that they had no contact for him and that he had retired.
However, since then, they have acknowledged his existence and have said that they will pass messages on, so all is not lost!

Very tiresome for you. They really should know, since Mick has used Bristol University as a public postal address for years (for example in his Who's Who entry.) He did not change this policy when he retired from Bristol University, as he remains a Professor Emeritus there.
Perhaps the response you get depends on who you talk to in there. It's a big place.
