According to the Treaty of Tripoli, The United States is not a Christian nation, in any sense of the word.
Q1. Does that necessarily mean that the USA is not founded upon an assupmtion of Christian PRINCIPLES?
Q2. Is it reasonable to maintain that the drafter(s), signer(s) and ratifiers meant that we were not a Christian nation in the sense that many Muslimdom nations were Islamic nations? After all, we certainly have no official religion, nor should we, and we have never operated under the mandate that we must subjugate the world as many Islamic countries were throughout history, including today.
After all, in the context of the time, Europe had been almost overrrun twice by Arab and Muslim hordes. Would it not be unreasonable for us to assure Tripoli that we had no such intent as an otherwise Christian nation?
