Eugene Bird was sacked from his job as Spandau commandant, put under house arrest, retired from the army, made to sign the Official Secrets Act and his book was censored and amended.
The only thing that makes sense of such over-reaction is that it was cover for something underhand.
Obviously Hess had a secret that must never be revealed.
What could possibly have been so secret about WW2 that was still so embarrassing in 1972 that officialdom decreed the general public were not mature enough to handle?
I have read suggestions that Hess's secret was something to do with the holocaust, has anybody got any ideas or information about this?
