Why is it that we don't combined Wind and Hydroelectric power in the windy regions of the US and become totally Energy independent?

Take the area around the Canadian river. Instead having one or two Hydroelectric plants you could recycle this water back to the lakes reservoirs with wind power being used as water pumps.

Instead of electric turbines use this wind power to recycle this water back up to the reservoirs thereby generating power with the conventional Hydro methods with dam power we use today.

The lonely limit on how much power we could generate this way would be limited only to the size of the project.
