I was in 124 at Miramar during 1954/55 and we were flying F7U-3's. I was a plane capt when 124 went to sea on the Hancock to test the steam cats. I'm not sure where all the separate dates came from but before I got out of 124 the VF 124 Gunfighter patch was in use. I have one on my flight jacket along with one for Project Cutlass given to me by Lt. Schirrah before he became an astronaut. Is there anybody still out there that was in Project Cutlass or 124 prior to 5/55? On another web site the Cutlass is listed as having a single engine. It may have seemed like that to some of the pilots who flew them bedause of the lack of power developed but if you look up the tail you'll see two afterburners, not just one.
