I have been considering a dove for quite some time. I grew up with cockatiels and had them for 18 and 20 years, then had a bad experience with a neurotic lovebird that after much medical intervention, had to be put down because nothing would stop her from pecking huge holes in her. When the doctor mentioned prozac, I said, enough. I want a bird that isn't high maintenance but will be tamed and want to interact. I've always had a soft spot for pidgeons, crows and doves. I can't find a breeder in my state to get a baby. I stumbled across a blue diamond dove today while getting crickets for my chameleon and she just looked so sweet. They let me handlelher and she panicked but eventually wound up on my finger for a few minutes. This is what I know about her. She's been at the store for 6-7 months and has not grown since she's been there so she's not a baby. They only interact with her when they feed her or clean her cage. Is this purchase a huge mistake of the heart? I don't want another critter that needs me but hates me. I have a 6 year old that I would like to introduce to birds. Is this the wrong way to go? Thanks!
