No doubt the cowboys collaspe was bigger. The eagles loss was not due to a failure by the player (Vick) that the eagles need to have confidence in to be successful. If the field goal kicker hits any one of those chip shot field goals, then the eagles win. Though their defense was dismal in the second half, I think that it is easier for the eagles to believe that the defense will get better and that Vick has what it takes to sustain them until the defense gets better. Afterall, even with the terrible defensive performance in the second half, Vick put them in the position to win.
However, the cowboys are a completely different story. While Vick does everything he is supposed to do in the second half to put his team in a position to win, Romo is directly involved in, not one, not two, but all three plays that lead to the cowboys loss.....AGAIN. You can say all day that the picks were not Romo's fault, but the bottom line is that he threw them...AGAIN. Though I don't think that a quarterback has to be great for his team to win a superbowl (case in point, Trent Dilfer), he has to inspire confidene in his team that he will win the game for them or he, at least, won't lose it. I think that after yesterday's failure by Dallas, at least some of the players, and certainly many of the fans, doubt that Romo won't lose big games. He probably doubts himself.
So, for me the evaluation is simple. For these teams to move on successfully this season, is it more important that the eagles have confidence in their current field goal kicker or that the cowboys have confidence in their quarterback? This evaluation does not even take into account the constant pressure on Dallas to win superbowls. Pressure exerted not only by fans , but by ownership.
Lest you think my opinions are biased towards the eagles or cowboys, let me point out that I am a Bears fan, so I have no love or particular dislike for either of these teams. Additionally, I like the style of quarterback that Dilfer was and I think his style would be perfect for my Bears now.
