Spyware are programs that are installed on computer systems generally without the user's knowledge or permission. Spyware are small pieces of software design to do a number of different things but they overall effect is that they compromise your online safety, security and personal privacy. They are a major threat next to Viruses and install on users pc without their permission and can perform tasks ranging from redirecting your web browser to porno sites to logging every word you type on your keyboard. Some spyware will make your computer run slower or not at all.
Spyware generally enters your PC via infected websites or through some software you downloaded. The only thing you can do to prevent yourself from being infected with spyware is to:
only install programs from trusted sources,
only open email from trusted sources,
only visit web sites that you are familiar with.
Did you know:
Often times when you download a program for free from the internet you could possibly be installing spyware too. Programs that come from reputable companies like Apple or Microsoft will not contain spyware.
A good indication that you computer is infected with spyware is that it runs slowly and when you go to the internet pop-up ads will appear
