What precisely were the two operations he wrote about, al-jabr and al-muqabala? Wikipedia says one thing, some other sites disagree; I'm inclined to think it's 'subtracting a number from both sides' and 'dividing both sides by a number', I've read it several places and it makes sense, but I have no source.
