Leonardo was a very complexed individual. Today he is largly remembered for the artworks he produced but in his lifetime he was known as a military engineer, scientist and inventor. He failed to complete many artistic commisions and was often thought unrelyable.
His public persona and philosophy was in keeping with the stricted cathololic dogma of the time but his secret writings make it obvious that he had little time for religion or the religious.
He practiced antomical disections on corpes to gain understanding of human life and to better depict humans more realisticly in his art. This was strictly forbbiden by the church so he was risking his life.
He was also a homosexual with a series of young lovers, one after the other until he reached extreme old age. This was also extemely dangerous.
Contemperary accounts describe a distracted and very difficult genious who didn't suffer fools lightly.

Leonardo as indeed homosexual. There are a great number of individuals who knew him well in life who commented on his sexuality in writing. Many modern historians like to sanitise the the lives of the individuals they write about. If you choose to study an idividual then you must be prepared to read the source material historians consult; not just reading a modern biography and taking it as gospel. Many historians have their own agendas and homophobia is often part of thosre agendas

Leonardo's philosophy towards life is "Anyone who conducts an argument by appealing to authority is not using his intelligence; he is just using his memory." For more paintings of Da vinci please visit our website at http://www.artworkonly.com/artreproductions/artist/leonardo-da-vinci.
