If we were to put aside 'carnal/earthly' causes, and attempt to reason out the 'cause(s)' of the reformation from a spiritual perspective, the following may be one answer, to your question;

According to the N/T, the gentiles were taught (and saved) first, but there would be a 'grafting back in' of the Israelites, later. Was the reformation, the beginning of this grafting back in? Was God's hand at work here?

We know that the tribes of Judah and Benjamin lived in Jerusalem (also some of the tribe of Levi...the priests). We also know, that the other tribes were taken captive by the Assyrians around 800 B.C. What happened to these 'lost tribes'? According to the writings of E. Raymond Capt (Australian archeologist), these tribes can be traced to the throne of England. Are the Vikings, Germanic tribes, etc., actually Israelites? Did God 'cleanse' the understanding of His Word, before grafting the Israelites back in?

The N/T teaches us, that there are those that say they are jews, but are not. Can this also be understood to mean that there are those that believe that they are gentiles, but are actually Israelites? Is the holocaust a case of true Israelites 'eliminating' false Israelites/jews? I emailed a jewish rabi, and he responded, by telling me that sadly through improper marriages, most jews have lost their 'chosen' status.

Also, the KJV Bible was prepared due to a decree of an anointed king. Was king James actually an Israelite? Another item of thought, is that the Israelites were commanded to celebrate the passover annually. Was Christ crucified during the passover on purpose? Is this God's way of ensuring that those that are actually Israelites, but believe that they are gentiles, are following His commandment, when they observe the resurrection of Christ and the passover together?
