My husband Richard griffith served on the CLG-5 from 71 - 75
while at the six-ince guns his hand became trapped resulting in the partial loss of his right index finger - he was air lifted to Okinawa where surgery was performed at the Naval hosp. He filed a SC claim and received a SC for that injury before being discharged- we cannot find any medical records supporting that SC. The problem is he re-injured his finger in woodshop just before being discharged and the VA now claims that is how the injury happened. He has other SC claims which are being examined for SC upgrade - but a C&P states that he lied about how the finger injury happened. The first hospitalization required a skin graft - the records the VA provide has no mention of that surgery. Can anyone here verify the incident -I think it was during combat in 73 or 74 and in the Spring.
