Carlos didn't go to sniper school. He relied on the skills he acquired growing up with his grandmother, hunting to put food on the table. He was the perfect, natural combination of fieldcraft and precision marksmanship. Though some general or colonel would have authorized the founding of the USMC Scout Sniper School at Quantico, Carlos essentially was the headmaster: he formulated the program of instruction and oversaw the actual teaching. From his example, other Marine Corps scout sniper schools were established, and the US Army Sniper School at Fort Benning, Georgia, and the Special Operations Target Interdiction Course, were heavily influenced by Carlos' accomplishments and mentorship.
