Residual unfinished business from WWI.... Hitler came into power during a time when Germany's economy was depressed... He encourage anti-semitic views and hatred blaming Jews for Germany's poor economy and other problems....

The dispute started between poland and Germany. Germany was cut off from it's own eastern portion by the polish corridor. Before ww1 that was German land. So Germany wanted it's own territory back. But England declared war on Germany. They actually declared worldwar on Germany. But Germany offered peace terms to England which England rejected. Germany offered England the right to keep it's own colonies but asked for a free hand in the east towards poland but england would not accept any peace offer from Germany. So a very hard war followed.

There was no dispute.Germany wanted to link up with East Prussia which was/is part of Germany, Separated by the "Danzig" land corridor which was taken from Germany as punishment for starting WW1 and given to Poland. Poland refused to allow a foreign country on its soil. In total Germany had to surrender 13% of it's country and all it's colonies, for it's creation of WW1.
Germany's intention should they have gained access to the "Corridor" was to invade Russia, thus achieving Hitlers ambition of Lebensraum, "Living Space" by occupying Russian territory.

Hitler took a gamble in occupying the Rhineland,Austria, and Czechoslovakia in 1938. Britain,France protested and made it quite clear that they were not prepared to allow Germany to build a new Empire in eastern Europe. It was quite plain to the rest of the world, that Hitler could not be trusted, Hitler took these protests as hollow threats. In March 1939 Britain and France unilaterally guaranteed sovereignty to Poland. Giving a clear warning, that if Germany violated that sovereignty war would result.Hitler did not believe the threats.Hitler however was not a complete gambler,In August 1939,he signed an non-aggression pact with his sworn ideological enemy Russia, as a means to avoid a war on two fronts. In September of the same year Hitler invaded Poland.
