World War...
World War I - actually started in Bosnia (was part of Yugoslavia), with the assasination of the old Archduke Franz Ferdinand of the Austo-Hungarian Empire. It was a calamity of dominoes as the web of treaties brought each nation into the mess.
World War II - started in two spheres. In the west (in Europe) it was non-combat German acquisitions of Germanic-speaking areas which belonged to other countries. Because the nations of Europe were afraid of another World War, they tried to appease Hitler by allowing his demands. The first shots in anger came with his invasion of Poland. In the east, Japan military leadership over-rode the Emperor and began seeking raw natural resources by force (because other nations levied trade sanctions against them). The military chief of staff (Tojo) was responsible for the invasions in China, Philippines, and southeast Asia to secure those resources. He attacked America, because they were responsible for the major headaches and the largest threat to success.
World War III - will begin in a flurry of small wars around the world, independent of each other. It will culminate in a struggle for quickly vanishing resources, powered by OIL. The Middle East will be the focal point, and the under-current of the Israeli-Arab antagonism will be the spark.

Actually, we've already HAD World War III and nobody noticed. Nations from every continent except Antarctica sent troops to the Persian Gulf in 1991 - even Japan, who doesn't even have an offensive force, sent a hospital ship to support it. The Soviet Union did not object to it.
Besides, any war where CANADA comes... :)

You are correct with WW1 & WW2.
WW3.Who will start it? what will be the cause..Population,Religion,Water,Food,Energy. Or will it be Greed as we have seen in recent years,IE; The financial problem similar to what the USA has experienced over the past few years.
WW3,may be going too far. Localised wars will go on for all of the above. As is in Afghanistan.
