Does anyone know or have information on "Youth Glider Programs" in the Chicago, Ill area from 1936-1940?

My dad is 87 years young and states that he participated in such a program and that Eddie Rickenbacker was his instructor. He stated that members of the program had to build a glider from scratch, fly and land it to pass the program. The program was intended to instill interest in aviation.
