The original native name of "Ubykhia" is Zyx. The Greeks described the inhabitants as "Zygoi", in modern English, "Zygians". The modern native appellation, "Adyghe" is cognate with Zyx, as is the English word "jig" for the lively, rapid, springing dances of the Zygians.
