Early life and career

Santos is of European, African and Amerindian ancestry. As a youngster he was rarely seen without a football. His father realized his talent at an early age and placed him with his local club's academy Figueirense

. Andre developed his goal-scoring abilities by arriving on the training pitch earlier than his teammates and practicing his shooting. Santos first played professionally for Figueirense in a friendly game against Corinthians as a left winger. He was promoted to the A team on 10 July 2003. He scored 5 goals in 25 appearances in the Turkish Super League in the 2010/11 season, making him the top scoring left back in Turkey. Santos later said that he was not deserting a sinking ship by leaving Fenerbahce, insisting he loved playing for them.
"I am leaving Fenerbahce from front door," Santos told reporters at Istanbul airport on 31 August. "I love the country, Istanbul and Turkish people. I can come back here at the latter stages of my career. I was happy at Fenerbahce but I did right thing for my career.

Arsenal

On 31 August 2011, André Santos signed for Arsenal on a long-term contract. He was given the number 11 shirt. Via Turkish Public Disclosure System (for Turkish stocks), Fenerbahçe SK announced the fee was €7 million.
