Biography

García was born in the working a class district of Cadiz (Spain), the eldest of a family of three children. She always wished for a career as an actress, a fact which remained secret for a while. Meanwhile, at school recess, the future artist had her first audience with her classmates, who asked her to sing. Later her presence in school as a singer became common. Although her parents supported her talent, they did not want it to become her career.
She began her artistic career by participating in various festivals songs, which was secretly supported by her paternal uncle who always believed in her talent and was her first fan. At 15 years old, with the approval of her parents, participated in company of zarzuela. She sang a traditional songs.José García was a famous Spanish artist, and her parents, was decisive for her future. who wanted to launch her into stardom.

Her name would be inappropriate to launch her into stardom,but she was a younger winners. Finally her name was born, Antonia García, which won its way into posterity. Later, she was declared Adoptive Daughter of this town of Cuba and a street was named in her honor.At the age of 12 she was offered a role in a zarzuela. After acting in several zarzuelas she married Malagueño singer Salvador Videgain Gómez, after having two of her children, she retired in 1908 from the theatre industry and in 1914 re-launched her singing career in festivals.

Death

In 1918 Antonia García was diagnosed with diabetes; she died at her home in Madrid on June 25, 1924, and her ashes are at the cemetery of Almudena in Madrid.
Her style has influenced many female tango singers from Argentina.
For her work as a recording artist, García was inducted into the Paseo de las Luminarias in Cuba City. Her son, Salvador Videgain
