The first semi-final was a straightforward affair for Felix as after initially being closed down a little by Oyepitan she was never behind and eased through in first place. Muna Lee could quite cath up to those in front where Oyepitan also finished strongly to pip Lalova on the line for second. Ottey had pulled up injured about seventy metres into the race.
Campbell beat her own world leading time for 2004 after a good start she simply pulled away from the rest. Gevaert had a very quick start and after consolidating entering the straight ran on again to break the Belgian record. Bailey finished the strongest behind her compatriot with them both achieving personal bests and Ferguson, seasons best, whilst off the pace in fourth held off Mothersill who didn't get close to the national record she had set in round 1.
