BFN Group presents: It's Showtime Warsaw
Encyclopedia
BFN Group Presents: It's Showtime Warsaw was a kickboxing
event promoted by the It's Showtime
organization. The event was held at the Warszawskie Centrum EXPO XXI in Warsaw, Poland on Saturday, 11 June, 2011 and it was the 50th event host by the organization and the first ever event to be held in Poland
. A small card compared with the last event in Amsterdam, there were five super fights (including the main event) ranging from 70 kg (154 lbs) to over 95 kg (209 lbs) and a world title fight, with all fights fought under It's Showtime (K-1
) rules. The world title fight was for the 95MAX belt held by Danyo Ilunga
who was making the first defense of his title against the reigning W.A.K.O. Pro
world champion Nenad Pagonis
, while the main event fight would be between the ever improving Daniel Ghiţă
and Erhan Deniz
. In total there were twelve fighters at the event, representing nine countries.
The fight for the 95MAX world title promised to be special with both Danyo Ilunga
and his opponent Nenad Pagonis
being multiple world champions and having high knockout ratios. Rather unusually many were tipping the challenger Pagonis as the favorite despite him having only five pro fights (although he has an extensive amateur record) against Danyo's experience of more than forty fights. For the first two rounds Nenad dominated, using good movement to swing away from the onrushing Danyo and hammering him with flashy combinations and kicks, making the Congolese champion look ordinary, although a propensity to lowering his hands was worrying. In the third round the tide turned with an ever persistent Danyo taking advantage of the Serbian's sloppy defense, hitting him with a huge punch which Nenad (although out on his feet) somehow managed to survive. In the fourth the end was nigh as an exhausted Pagonis was floored from a huge punch and amazingly managed to get back to his feet. A second big punch meant that referee Joop Ubeda had no hesitation in stopping the fight leaving Danyo Ilunga as the winner and still 95MAX world champion. For Nenad it would be a disappointment that he lost a fight he was in control of due to suicidal defence but the future should still be bright for a very talented prospect.
In the main event Daniel Ghiţă
faced Erhan Deniz
in what could probably be seen as a tune up fight for Ghiţă's upcoming fights against man of the moment Badr Hari
. Ghiţă was far the larger of the two men and peppered Deniz's legs with crushing low kicks and by the middle of the first round Deniz was already limping and you feared the worst for the Turkish fighter. Deniz rarely troubled the Romanian fighter and it says a lot that his best attack was a head butt (accidental) towards the end of the round which strangely lead to an eight count being given against Ghiţă by an otherwise solid performance as referee by Joop Ubeda. In the second round things carried on as before with Ghiţă hitting Deniz with some beautiful body shots, one of which eventually put him down for what would be a knockout
victory for the Romanian. The end was initially rather confusing as Deniz had blood pouring from a cut to the top of the head and seemed rather agitated – although on the replay Ghiţă, just after the body shot, had thrown a kick which skimmed the falling Turk's scalp – legal as Deniz was not on the floor. For Ghiţă it was a dominating performance and he can look forward to facing Hari with some confidence.
Other results on the night included an impressive performance by Murthel Groenhart
who broke a series of two consecutive defeats by defeating Errol Koning, while the lightning quick Hafid El Boustati showed he may be a future challenger for 73MAX champion Yohan Lidon
as he dominated his opponent. In the fight that arguably was of most interest to the locals, Rafał Dudek avenged an earlier defeat against fellow countryman and K-1 MAX
final 8 contestant Michał Głogowski
taking an extra round decision after three rounds which could have gone either way.

being multiple world champions and having high knockout ratios. For Nenad it would be a disappointment that he lost a fight he was in control of due to suicidal defence but the future should still be bright for a very talented prospect.
