was the only applicant for the Tyne & Wear licence by the closing date of 10 August 1999. It was awarded the licence on 4 October 1999, having been advertised on 21 April 1999.
The multiplex was initially known as Emap Tyne & Wear but was renamed due to Bauer Media Group purchasing Emap's radio operations.
