He came into the series in the middle of season 5 as a guest before coming back to the series as a full time cast member of the show and stayed from season 5-season 11 . as a Detective Acting-Sergeant but was demoted to Senior Constable when he was accused of murder and accused Detective sergeant Romano but was later clear of those charges and sergeant Romanos was dissmed and went away for a long time .he was a guest before he actually became regular cast member of the show
He fell for Maggie Doyle upon arriving and the two had a brief relationship but later, Maggie chose PJ over him.Ben had a drinking problem towards the end of season 9 and the first half of season 10 but that ended. when he met a salvation army women name Marrissa caddrock and they began a relationship together and he even joined the salvation-army and later got engaged towards the end of season 10 and season 11 and also had a no sex till marriage thing. but that all ended when was accused of having sex with police colleague Susie Raynor but was also later cleared of these events having the trust from all members and the people of well most people of MT Thomas Marrissa finds out they can't get married if they don't trust one and other so like the gentle man Benjamin he is. he doesn't break off the marriage and the relationship so Marrissa dose because they can't fix there problems in the episode 424 of season 11
