History
The first airport opened in Båtsfjord by the riverbed in the valley of Storelva, as part of the construction of a regional airport network in Northern Norway in 1978. Due to safety regulations a new airport had to be constructed. The new airport is located up on the hills of Varangervidda overlooking Båtsfjord from the south-west. It opened on October 29, 1999. The old Båtsfjord Airport was the last airport to be serviced with Twin Otter aircraft by Widerøe, all other regional lines switching to Dash 8 in the mid 1990s.Facilities
