Geography

Bühler has an area, , of 5.6 km² (2.2 sq mi). Of this area, 62.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while 26% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 10.6% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.7%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).

The municipality is located in the Appenzell Mittelland on the north side of the Rotbachtal. It consists of the village of Bühler and scattered hamlets
