Canada's Got Talent will be a Canadian reality television
series set to debut on the Citytv
television network
in March 2012, and part of the global British Got Talent franchise
(which Citytv already airs the American version
of).
Canada's Got Talent is a talent show that features singers, dancers, magicians, comedians, and other performers of all ages competing for a cash prize of $100,000 and a booking to perform in an as-yet-unnamed Las Vegas venue.
Preliminary auditions for the first season of Canada's Got Talent will take place during fall 2011 and continue into January 2012. Auditions for the show will be taking place in Winnipeg
, Edmonton
, Vancouver
, Montreal
, Toronto
and Halifax.
Those chosen by the producers to perform in front of the host, judges and live audience will start in Calgary on October 18 and 19. They will then go on to each city in October, November and December 2011. Those chosen by the panel of judges will then go on to Toronto for the group round in spring 2012.
Canadian comedian and actor Martin Short
was announced as the first judge on October 13, 2011. On October 17, opera singer Measha Brueggergosman
and muscian Stephan Moccio
were announced as the two judges who will be joining Short at the table. Breakfast Television
s Dina Pugliese
was announced to be the host of the show.
Canadian illusionist Ryan Joyce claims to already know the name of the first season's winner, and says he will keep his prediction in public view and reveal his prediction at the conclusion of the show.
