Captain EO's Voyage is the twenty-ninth studio album released by guitarist Buckethead
. The album's title is a reference to Michael Jackson
's movie Captain EO
. It is not the first time Jackson has been referenced; Buckethead released the track "The Return of Captain EO" on the album A Real Diamond in the Rough
in 2009, and a notable song dedicated to the death of Jackson titled "The Homing Beacon."
The album was first made available only as a download through iTunes
, but 2 days after the release it was announced that the album would be released on CD through TDRS Music
. It is also the first solo release since Kaleidoscalp
(2005) that has not been released first through TDRS. The pre-order of the album, along with Left Hanging
, started on October 29 with a tentative release of December 1. Eventually, the CD was released on November 29.
