Named after former mayor Charles W. Flanagan, Charles W. Flanagan High School opened its doors in 1996 as the first public high school in Pembroke Pines, Florida
. Flanagan High School is located near Broward County's C.B. Smith Park and the Walter C. Young Middle School and Resource Center.
Flanagan’s enrollment is now just over 3000. The school operates on a block schedule with four periods in a day. Flanagan High School was featured as a "Top 1000 high schools in the nation" by Newsweek
magazine, based on statistics such as Advanced Placement enrollment.
Flanagan is also known for its diversity in the academies, and is one of the only high schools in Broward County to have an AP psychology class.
Flanagan has an FCAT
school grade of "B" for the 2009-2010 academic year.
In 2009 and 2011 the Flanagan World Guard received the Bronze Medal at World Championships.
The Flanagan World Guard also won the South Florida Winter Guard Association World Class Championship in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011

The Falcon Company has been a distinguished unit from 2001 through 2011. In 2010, LCDR James Stuffer joined the unit and lead alongside SCPO Wayne Smith. In 2011, the Falcon Company place 3rd at nationals.

Colorguard wins World Championship
Flanagan High School's World Guard are the 2008 WGI World Champion. They competed at the WGI World Championships on April 11 and 12 in Dayton, Ohio and earned a score of 96.9, beating all other competitors in their division and ending a ten year winning streak of another team. They are the first colorguard in Florida to achieve this position in the Scholastic World class. In addition to this victory, they are also the 2008 Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, Pensacola and South Power Regional Champions.In 2009 and 2011 the Flanagan World Guard received the Bronze Medal at World Championships.
The Flanagan World Guard also won the South Florida Winter Guard Association World Class Championship in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011
