are the only major political parties in Moldova that support unification with Romania
. Thanks to the support for the communist President Vladimir Voronin he got reelected. Since April 4, 2005 PPCD lost several deputies, mayors, councillors and members to the liberal-democrat parties. PPCD was an informal coalition party of the Communists.

(EPP). The party is a full member of the European Christian Political Movement
(ECPM).
The 2002 one-month suspension of party's activities was found to be in violation of its freedoms of assembly and association by the European Court of Human Rights in 2006.
