The Citizens' Industrial Alliance was initially called the National Industrial Association, but followed the lead of local campaigns in adopting a name similar to the National Citizens' Industrial Alliance, a populist organization from the previous decade. Some historians have referred to the organization with other variations on the name, such as the Citizens' Industrial Association.
