The sporting institution was founded on 24 October 1902 as a football club called San Isidro Athletic Club

, rugby was not played by the club until 1907; it is the top Buenos Aires team with 33 titles. In 1935 several players and part of the management were suspended from the club over ideological discrepancies, and went on to found the San Isidro Club
