During the 1996 season, with the former footballer Mario Obsén as the coach, the club was runner-up of Tercera División, after of finishing second after of Santiago Morning in the quadrangular playoffs to Primera B by 4 points of the Primera B

In 1997, Universidad de Concepción won the Tercera División, and the club was promoted to Primera B

, the team was runner-up of the Torneo de Clausura 2007, being defeated newly by Colo-Colo.
In the 2008 season, Barticciotto was dismissed, and replaced by Jorge Pellicer
, because of the irregular campaign during the season. In the Torneo de Apertura, the club ended in the 16th position with 21 points. In the second semester tournament, the Torneo de Clausura, the club once ended in the 16th position, going to the Promotion playoffs to Primera B

After of an irregular season in the Torneo de Apertura 2009, in the Torneo de Clausura the club made a good campaign during the tournament, ended in the 5th position qualifying to the playoffs. However, once again the club was eliminated by Colo-Colo

In the Primera División Chilena 2010, Universidad de Concepción made an irregular season, ended in the 15th position with 38 points over Santiago Morning with 36 points.
