. The following year he was a key member of the team as Tipp won the National League outright. Later that summer O’Brien made his championship debut against Cork.
On 5 September 2010, O'Brien came on as a second half substitute as Tipperary won their 26th All Ireland title

by 4-17 to 1-18 in the final
, preventing Kilkenny from achieving an historic 5-in-a-row, it was O'Briens's first All-Ireland winners medal.
