DPT was created by Richard Groves in September 2004 (Version 0.1) as a basic Model 204 emulator where User Language code could be executed without the need for a mainframe

. The original version was based upon the V4.2 release of Model 204.

DPT (Version 2.0) has since been expanded on and improved to cover much of Model 204's functionality and then some new features of its own. The product now incorporates a development environment with an emulation of the 4GL User Language, DBMS and built in web server
