Encyclopedia
"Tren de Amor" is pop vocalist Jermaine Stewart's second and last single of 1988. The song is the album opener on his third album Say It Again
. This single was the third of four singles released from the album.
"Don't Talk Dirty to Me" marked the start of Stewart's commercial decline. The previous single "Get Lucky" managed to peak at #13 in the UK whilst "Don't Talk Dirty to Me" failed to make the top 40, peaking at #61 for a total of three weeks.
This would also be Stewart's last European hit, becoming his biggest hit in Germany, peaking at #4 there whilst the single peaked at #14 in Switzerland.
No promotional video was created for the single which may have contributed to the song's limited success in the UK. Stewart performed the song on the German "Peters Pop Show". He also performed the song on the American TV show "Soul Train". Originally before his fame as a singer, Stewart had gained recognition as a dancer on the very same show.
"Don't Talk Dirty to Me" was written by Stewart and André Cymone
who also produced the single. Cymone was a former bandmate of Prince
and also ex-husband of Jody Watley
.
The b-side for the single "Search" was exclusive to the single, written by Stewart and Roy Carter. The b-side later appeared on the 1999 compilation "A Tribute to Jermaine Stewart, Attention". Carter was rhythm guitarist for the disco band Heatwave
before leaving to pursue a career in record production.
For the single, various remixes of "Don't Talk Dirty to Me" were released along with the CD single track "Get Lucky (New York Mix)" which is a remix of the hit single track from Stewart's album "Say It Again". The song was written by Errol Brown
and Simon Climie
. Brown is a Jamaican-born singer and songwriter, best known as the frontman of Hot Chocolate. Climie is a songwriter and the former lead singer of the 1980s, UK pop duo, Climie Fisher
, but is now more well known for his work as a collaborator with Eric Clapton
