Emmett O'Brien Technical High School

Emmett O' Brien Technical High School is one of 17 technical schools operated by the State of
Connecticut located in Ansonia. O' Brien mainly serves the towns of Ansonia, Bethany, Beacon Falls, Shelton, Naugutuck, Derby, Seymour, and Oxford. The school is awaiting a long planned $80 million dollar renovation slated to begin the summer of 2011. The renovation project includes a new facade, expanded shop and academic wing, and an upgraded athletic field. It will take about 3 years to be completed.

Emmett O' Brien currently offers ten trades:
  • Automotive Technology
  • Carpentry
  • Computer Aided Drafting and Design
  • Culinary Arts- Operates a restaurant opened to the public known as Cafe 141.
  • Electrical
  • Electronics
  • Hair Dressing and Barbering Cosmetology- Salon opened to the public.
  • Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigerant- Consistently ranks #1 in the state.
  • Manufacturing Technology
  • Plumbing and Heating

The renovation will include one additional shop.

Athletics

O'Brien competes in the Constitutional State Conference. Its varsity teams have won numerous championships in the past.

Student Organizations

  • Student Council- Organizes school wide functions and addresses issues of the student body.
  • Yearbook Committee- The Icarian became a tradition since the first graduating class of 1971.
  • National Honors Society- The chapter includes junior and senior members with leadership qualities and high achieving grades.
  • SkillsUSA- O'Brien consistently sends students to compete in the national competition at Kansas City.
