 on April 15, 1869 and graduated from University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1893. He farmed near Nehawka until he was elected to the Nebraska State house of representatives in 1896. He served until 1899 and then became president of the Nebraska Republican League in 1900.

In 1905 he was elected to the Fifty-ninth United States Congress after the resignation of Elmer J. Burkett who had been elected to the United States Senate
