. The stadium was nicknamed after Chácara dos Eucalitpos (meaning Eucalyptus' Ranch), which is the place where the stadium was built. Its formal name honors Ildo Meneghetti, who was a president of Internacional and an engineer.

In 1931, the works on Estádio dos Eucaliptos were completed. Initially, the maximum capacity was of 10,000 people. The inaugural match was played on March 15 of that year, when Internacional beat Grêmio
