N'tsunda made his Portuguese top flight debut in the 1996–97 season, scoring twice in 28 games for G.D. Chaves to help the northerners finish in 10th position. On 30 January 1998, he came from the bench to score twice in a 3–2 home win against Sporting Clube de Portugal and, in March, signed for fellow league side Vitória de Guimarães, where he appeared rarely due to injury.
