The event was formerly classed at Group 1 level, and it used to be contested in September. For a period its distance was 2,400 metres. It was downgraded in 1996, and since then it has held Listed status. It was cut to 2,000 metres in 1997, and at the same time it was moved to late June. It was extended to 2,200 metres in 2009.
