and Major Stewart's band is a unit of Rebels. They kill the Cavalry
soldiers and capture the gold, only to learn the war ended a month ago.
They flee but are chased by renegades who want that gold. Along the way they pick up a Molly, a former Union Army nurse, and her fiancee Kemper. The men outside want in, while Stewart and young Confederate soldier Jamie also must contend with Kemper, who refuses to help, and the violent Bainter, who tries to force himself on Molly.
They get pinned down at a stage relay station, where the renegades try to burn them out. Bainter and Kemper are killed. Stewart decides to take the money back to Virginia to aid with the reconstruction of the South.
