He is the son of Prince Heinrich XXXIX Reuss, Prinz Reuss of Köstritz and Countess Antonia of Castell-Castell. Heinrich IV became head of the royal family after missing of the previous prince Heinrich XLV(missing in 1945 and declared dead in 1962).
