Henri d'Angoulême, sometimes referred to as Henri de France or Henri de Valois, born in 1551 at Aix-la-Chapelle. He was the illegitimate son of Henry II of France
and Janet Stewart
. He was known to write sonnets, one of which was set to music by Fabrice Caietain
. In 1586, he was killed in a duel with Philip Altoviti in Aix, Provence.
Titled Chevalier d'Angouleme by his father, he served as abbot of La Chaise-Dieu, Grand Prior of France, Admiral of the Levant and governor of Provence.
He participated in the siege of La Rochelle in 1573 organized by the Duke of Anjou, later King Henry III and the headquarters of Ménerbes as governor of Provence.
