in 1961, while working as the Registrar at Greenlane Hospital in Auckland
.
In the wake of his discovery, Williams was offered a position at the Mayo Clinic
, but did not appear as scheduled. The second time he was offered the position, later in the 1960s, he also did not show, and disappeared, leaving only a suitcase at a baggage claim in London
. Interpol traced him to Salzburg
in 1972 when his mother died.
