Dr. James Drummond Anderson, Litt.D. (died 1920) was a member of the Indian Civil Service from 1873 until 1900, and later a lecturer in Benagli at the University of Cambridge. He published a collection of Kachari folk-tales, of Chittagong proverbs, and other works on the languages of North-East India, usually under the name of "J. D. Anderson".

His eldest son was James Drummond Anderson (1886–1968), and another son was William Louis Anderson
