James O'Hara, 2nd Baron Tyrawley and 1st Baron Kilmaine PC (1682 – 14 July 1774) was an Irish
officer of the British
Army.
, James O'Hara was commissioned into the Royal Fusiliers in 1703.
He was active during the War of Spanish Succession and fought at the Siege of Barcelona
in 1706 and was wounded at the Battle of Almansa
in 1707 and again at the Battle of Malplaquet
in 1709. In 1728 he was appointed an envoy to Portugal
. He transferred to the 7th Regiment of Foot in 1739. He became Ambassador
to Russia
in 1743 and Governor of Minorca in 1747. He transferred Regiment again in 1755 this time to the Coldstream Guards
.
He became Governor of Gibraltar
in 1756 and was given the rank of field marshal
in 1763. He was the father of Charles O'Hara
who followed him into the army and also served as Governor of Gibraltar.
