A prequel
seven-episode series was released in 2001, offering an explanation for those unfamiliar with the story in the previous series. It started with Joseph coming to Japan to explain Jōtarō's strange behavior (volume 12 in the manga).
The entire 6-volume (13-episode) anime series was released in the United States, dubbed in English, and in its fictional chronological (series 2 before series 1) by Super Techno Arts.
A theatrical film was released on February 17, 2007 in Japanese theaters only. Again, Studio APPP and several of the crew members from the OVAs returned to produce the film. The movie covers the events in Part 1: Phantom Blood
of the manga.
