Joaquín López-Dóriga Velandia (born February 7, 1947 in Madrid
, Spain
) is a Spanish Mexican
journalist.
At the age of 18 he started working as a journalist for the daily El Heraldo de México and two years later he joined Jacobo Zabludovsky
in the television news program 24 Horas.
In 1988 he was appointed news director of the Instituto Mexicano de la Televisón (Imevision).
He currently hosts the late evening news show El Noticiero con Joaquín López-Dóriga at Canal de las Estrellas
, hosts the radio talk show “López-Dóriga” for Radio Fórmula Network, writes for "Milenio Diario" and co-hosts the talk show Tercer Grado . Currently he is off the air in El Noticiero and in the radio show "López-Dóriga".

This resulted in long spaces of dead air on numerous occasions, while the actor was trying to understand what the interviewer was saying. Subsequently, López-Dóriga attempted to translate his own words himself, speaking in very poor English. The incident has become infamous in Mexican internet culture, with López-Dóriga's mispronounciation of the phrase "Why the Rite?" as "Juay de rito?" becoming a catchphrase and popular meme.
