The Rite controversy

On February 14, 2011, López-Dóriga sparked controversy during an interview with Anthony Hopkins

 while the actor was promoting The Rite. López-Dóriga asked his questions in Spanish, however, due to unspecified technichal difficulties, Hopkins couldn't hear the translation. This resulted in long spaces of dead air on numerous occasions, while the actor was trying to understand what the interviewer was saying. Subsequently, López-Dóriga attempted to translate his own words himself, speaking in very poor English. The incident has become infamous in Mexican internet culture, with López-Dóriga's mispronounciation of the phrase "Why the Rite?" as "Juay de rito?" becoming a catchphrase and popular meme.
